Sun, Sea and Gold Cup.

There is lots of action at the moment in Sotogrande, Spain, as the polo enters into its final competition stages of the Gold Cup. Last weekend saw the final of the Silver Cup, and this week will see further matches of the Gold Cup leading up to the final on Sunday 27 August.

Lechuza Caracas were the winners of the Maserati Silver Cup last weekend after defeating Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada in the final by 10 goals to 8. The Silver Cup is the second trophy of the 46th International Polo Tournament organized by Santa María Polo Club in Sotogrande.

During the weekend we saw more High Goal Gold Cup matches in Soto. Ayala Polo Team defeated La Indiana by 16 goals to 8 in the fourth day of the action (Friday).

Lechuza Caracas seem to be unstoppable, keeping up their winning streak. They are unbeaten. The team led by the 10 goaler, Juan Martín Nero, defeated Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada by 9 goals to 8. It was a great match, with Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada forcing Lechuza Caracas to play at a really high level to win the match.

Further action on Saturday saw Dubai Polo Team achieve an important victory in their defense of the Gold Cup by defeating La Indiana 13 goals to 10. The defending champions achieved a deserved victory based on great teamwork with Pablo Mac Donough scoring 9 of the 13 goals for his team.

Finally, in a tremendous match on Sunday, Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada defeated Ayala Polo Team by 13 goals to 12 in overtime, breaking Ayala’s unbeaten record. Dos Lunas achieved a great comeback in the last four minutes of the match to tie the game and take it to over time. It was Facundo Sola, after a great solo effort, who scored the winning goal for Dos Lunas. All credit goes to the foursome who never gave up, even at a clear disadvantage in the score, and with this victory they may have a chance to qualify to the semifinals.
