Polo for Heroes

Polo for Heroes

Polo for Heroes, fundraising in support of Help for Heroes, was launched in 2010 by Clare Dingwall at St Albans Polo Club. The concept was to organize an event with superb cuisine, breath taking entertainment and your chance to help make a difference for very worthy causes. The successful first event was built on in the following years with the Gaucho Grill providing a delicious barbecue lunch in 2011, and a number of Masterchefs producing sumptuous cuisine in the following years.

The aim is to raise money to help our Heroes through charities and worthy causes that support members of Britain’s Armed Forces who have been wounded serving their country.

2014’s event relocated to a new venue, Fifield Polo Club in Windsor, with a sumptuous Argentinean Asado to accompany the polo. 2015 was again held at Fifield, and on a glorious summer’s day saw The Battleback Heroes, a team of injured service men and women, win their match.

‘‘Our mission is to share with you our passion for polo and food by providing a spectacular sporting experience’’

Polo for Heroes 2016 will be held at Fifield Polo Club, Windsor.

The polo: Doors open at 1pm, with lunch and the polo tournament taking place during the afternoon. Polo is a supreme test of horse and rider and requires nerve and skill to drive a small white ball into the opposing team’s goal using a long wooden mallet. For spectators it’s a fun, buzzy and hugely exciting experience watching two teams of four players contesting chukkas at high speeds across a wide, open space. Polo is not an elite sport – far from it. It’s open to everyone, both as participants and spectators and attracts people from all walks of life. If you don’t know the rules of polo, don’t worry, everything will be explained. The matches are accompanied by match commentary, and you can keep yourself refreshed while you are entertained with drinks from the bar.

Spectators will be treated to thrilling edge-of-the-seat action as our Heroes, The Hackett Army Polo Team, The Clogau Wales Polo Team and Civilian Teams battle it out on the pitch, a real clash of the Titans! Ryan will again be giving his support to this event and playing with the injured service men and women.

Entrance is by ticket or payable on the gate. You can bring your own picnic and take advantage of a bar, ice cream and other refreshments while you enjoy the polo. Alternatively tickets are available to be booked in advance for an after polo dinner and dance. A raffle is drawn before dinner which is served early evening. Following the dinner there will be an auction and dancing into the night! Carriages are at midnight.

Polo for Heroes promises to be a fantastic day out with an opportunity to meet players, ponies and Heroes and contribute to well-deserving causes. All the proceeds from the raffle go directly to them along with a donation. An equal donation will also be made to The Irish Guards Appeal Fund. Polo for Heroes will continue to raise funds for more R&R trips for the Help for Heroes Band of Brothers in 2016.
