Guards Season Starts.
The Spring Tournament has kicked off the season at Guards. Played on the grounds in the Great Park this is the club’s first tournament and has attracted twelve team entries. This low goal tournament (2-6 goals) is seen as a great warm-up for both players and ponies. The league matches continue until 10 May by which time each of the teams will have played three times. Los Lobos and Mad Dogs have both opened their accounts strongly and head up the leader board.
With the 12 goal Valerie Halford Memorial Trophy also underway the polo season at Guards has well and truly started. The tournament is being played at the picturesque Coworth Park grounds. The tournament, which started this weekend with league matches, has eight teams entered. Teams have patrons and professionals with handicaps ranging from -1 goals to 7 goals, and all the teams are the 12 goal maximum handicap. The first four games has seen Clarita, Four Quarters Black, Oakley Court and Four Quarters Orange go top of the leader board. The league games are completed on Tuesday 9 May with the semis on Thursday 11 May and finals on Saturday 13 May.
The first 15 goal tournament played on the Smith’s Lawn is the La Martina Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Centenary Trophy. This tournament starts with two games on Saturday 6 May, and a further three on Sunday 7 May. The teams sport 6 and 7 goal players, with Mad Dogs including 8 goaler Alejandro Novillo Astrada in their line-up. The semis are to be held on Friday 19 May and the finals on Sunday 21 May.
