This weekend’s semi final matches in the Argentine Open have resulted in the final next weekend being between La Dolfina and Ellerstina.
La Dolfina once again showed their superiority over Cria Yatay with a 27-4 win on Saturday. Credit to Cria Yatay as they are the first qualifier team to reach the semi final; this is a substantial achievement. In fact they won 26 line outs to La Dolfina’s 17, however, when they missed a shot or made a mistake, La Dolfina were quick to capitalise. La Dolfina were better mounted, faster at all aspects of the game and showed that despite the hiccup in the Hurlingham final, they are still a truly phenomenal team and will be difficult to beat in the final next Saturday.
Ellerstina’s match against Alegria on Sunday was a closer affair. Alegria showed intent leading 3-1 in the first and 6-5 in the fourth before Ellerstina levelled 6-6 by halftime. Ellerstina were not “clicking” as usual and missing shots. Alegria pushed hard, they won 11 throw ins to Ellerstina’s 6 in the first half and forced Ellerstina out of their comfort zone.
The second half started off in the same vein with Alegria getting ahead to 9-7 in the fifth. Ellerstina played catch up and edged ahead 10-9 in the sixth and held Alegria scoreless in the seventh, 13-9. The last chukka was even and after a tough match Ellerstina make another final with a 15-11 win. They will have to play better than they did in this match to stand a chance against La Dolfina.
The final of the Argentine Open is scheduled for Saturday 10 December at La Catedral del Polo, Palermo, Buenos Aires.
